Community Guidelines

Ndolula is a peer-to-peer rental platform built on trust. These guidelines help keep our community safe, fair, and enjoyable for everyone.

What You Can Rent Out

Items suitable for the Ndolula rental platform

  • Physical items in good working condition

Tools, equipment, electronics, sporting gear, camping gear, party supplies, musical instruments, and other tangible items that are safe and functional.

  • Honestly and accurately described

Clearly describe item condition, include any existing wear or defects, and use your own photos. Set realistic rental rates and appropriate bond amounts.

  • Items you own and are authorised to rent

You must own the item or have explicit permission from the owner to list it for rental. Renting items you do not own is prohibited.

  • Legal items under Australian law

All items listed must be legal to own, use, and rent under Commonwealth and state law.

  • Items with clear care instructions

Provide usage and care instructions so renters know how to handle your items properly. This reduces damage and disputes.

What's Not Allowed

These items and activities are prohibited on Ndolula

  • Weapons and ammunition

Firearms, knives, crossbows, tasers, pepper spray, or any item classified as a weapon under Australian law.

  • Hazardous materials

Chemicals, flammable substances, explosive materials, or items that pose a safety risk to renters or the public.

  • Stolen property

Items you do not own or do not have permission to rent. Listing stolen property will result in immediate account suspension and may be reported to authorities.

  • Illegal items

Drugs, drug paraphernalia, counterfeit goods, recalled products, or anything illegal to possess or rent under Australian law.

  • Misleading listings

Using stock photos, hiding defects, misrepresenting condition, or inflating item value to set unreasonable bonds.

  • Off-platform transactions

Asking renters to pay outside Ndolula to avoid fees or protections. All bookings and payments must go through the platform.

  • Harassment and abuse

Threatening, harassing, or discriminating against other users in messages, reviews, or listings.

Renter Responsibilities

What is expected of you when renting items

  • Care for items as if they were your own

Treat rented items with respect. Follow the owner's care instructions and use items only for their intended purpose.

  • Return items on time and in the same condition

Return items by the agreed end date, then mark them returned in the app so the owner can confirm. Keeping an item past its end date without the owner's agreement is a breach of our terms. Contact the owner to arrange an extension if needed.

  • Do not sub-rent or lend items to others

Rented items are for your personal use only. You must not lend, sub-rent, or allow others to use items rented in your name.

  • Report damage honestly and immediately

If an item is damaged, lost, or broken during your rental, notify the owner through the platform straight away. You are financially responsible for damage beyond normal wear and tear.

  • Take photos at pickup and return

Document the item's condition when you receive it and when you return it. This protects you in case of a dispute.

Owner Responsibilities

What is expected of you when listing items for rent

  • Provide accurate listings

Describe items honestly, include genuine photos, and disclose any existing wear or defects. Misrepresenting items leads to disputes and account action.

  • Set fair and appropriate bonds

Bond amounts should reflect the item's value and potential repair costs. Do not set unreasonably high bonds to discourage renters or profit from normal wear.

  • Prompt handover and communication

Be available for handover at the agreed time. Respond to renter messages promptly and keep all communication on the platform.

  • Confirm returns within 24 hours

When a renter marks an item returned, inspect it and confirm its condition in the app within 24 hours. If you do not, the return is accepted automatically, the bond is released and you can no longer claim.

  • Only claim bonds for genuine damage

Bond claims are for damage beyond normal wear and tear. Do not claim bonds for minor scuffs, dust, or other signs of ordinary use. Repeated frivolous claims may result in account review.

Consequences

What happens when guidelines are violated

Level 1

Warning

For first-time or minor violations, we will issue a warning and explain what needs to change. This includes minor listing inaccuracies or communication issues.

Level 2

Listing removal

Listings that violate our guidelines will be removed. Repeated removals may escalate to account suspension. This includes prohibited items, misleading descriptions, or unreasonable bond amounts.

Level 3

Account suspension

Serious or repeated violations will result in temporary or permanent account suspension. Suspended users cannot rent, list items, or message other users. This includes non-return of items, fraud, harassment, or listing illegal items.
